In their early years, Glenn and Donna’s days were defined by fluorescent lights, white lab coats, and the meticulous precision of being specialized pharmacists. Every pill, every prescription filled followed the same routine, but beyond the pharmacy counter, their imaginations wanted something less conventional. They were inspired by the wave of European fashion sweeping through the late 80’s & early-1990s. This was an era where latex, leather, chains, corsets, and spiked collars blurred the line between fashion and self-expression. They loved it and envisioned a world that could exist in the United States, especially South Florida.

Long before online shopping made niche products accessible, Glenn and Donna sourced rare apparel and accessories through international catalogs. They were introducing styles virtually impossible to find anywhere else in the U.S. After selling their pharmacy business, they left predictable careers behind to pursue their true passion, opening Fetish Factory in Fort Lauderdale in 1995.

“By the early 2000s, this grew into rubber parties,” said Danny Ae, one of the administrators of Fetish Factory. “Also, people were coming in from other states and all over the world. We developed a community before Facebook and Myspace, and the community members had the bravery and tenacity to do what they loved while also trying to bring people together in Fort Lauderdale and beyond.”

After immigrating to the United States in the 1990s, Danny Ae, a musician and graphic designer, found not only a new home in South Florida, but also friendships and a welcoming community with Fetish Factory. He works alongside the boutique’s founders, and Danny Ae, along with his partner Val Vampyre (who met at Fetish Factory events), help carry their vision forward, blending their artistic spirit with the culture and community that have made Fetish Factory an enduring destination for alternative fashion and self-expression.

“South Florida thrives on diversity & community,” said Ae. “Las Olas, Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, Boca, all these places go out for events. Especially for Halloween, which is one of our biggest events, and we’ve done over 3,000 people depending on the venue.”

Traditional Halloween usually features predictable plastic masks, cheap store-bought capes, and costumes tossed together at the last minute. However, the spirit of fearless self-expression comes alive through Fetish Factory, where Halloween has become an art form after more than 30 years of hosting its annual celebrations.

“Halloween goes hand-in-hand with the store,” said Ae. “Transforming yourself, expanding your creativity, and we’ll have performers from all over the U.S., like DJs, and we have installations, and for safety, we have trained security. But the real treat is the crowd.”

As October descends, we’ll see polished latex catching the glow of neon lights, corsets sculpting striking silhouettes, playful cat ears and towering boots, and masks, lace, chains, and imaginative costumes blurring the line between fantasy and reality. Fetish Factory will once again bring its signature Halloween celebration to The Manor in Wilton Manors on Saturday, October 24, inviting guests to immerse themselves in creativity and confidence.

“We also do smaller events where we can get more intimate every month,” said Ae. “Halloween is our biggest one-nighter, but during our anniversary weekend event on Memorial Day weekend—which is a total fetish hotel takeover and multiple club events we’ve had people coming from all over the world like Egypt, Australia, Canada, London, Spain, Italy, and everywhere.”

This year’s theme is Neo-Medieval. This year’s event will blend futuristic armor, ornate metallic details, Victorian-inspired silhouettes, and fantasy-inspired craftsmanship into a world where old kingdoms collide with the modern imagination of Fetish Factory.

“Halloween is our wildcard,” said Ae. “A futuristic approach to medieval fashion, and the same way people plan their outfit for Supercon, people plan their costumes for this month and months in advance. This is definitely something that is pivotal.”

After Fetish Factory’s Halloween spectacle, the team is already looking beyond October for future events, new themed experiences, and creative collaborations already in the works.

Fetish Factory is an example of a fitting evolution for a business. They didn’t begin as a fashion studio or nightclub, but under the fluorescent lights and carefully measured routines of a South Florida pharmacy. Over 30 years later, Glenn and Donna traded prescriptions for passion. Their vision is proof that the boldest transformation is not the costume someone wears for a night, but the life they choose to create for themselves.
